Belford Seafood Database

Unlike many other US fishing ports, Belford is not a single catch port. Belford Seafood Co-op catches a tremendous selection of fish using a wide variety of catch methods and much of this catch is sold through the co-op seafood market. Some of these fish may be quite familiar to the seafood customers, but others might not be so familiar, and therefore are less likely to be purchased for home consumption. This database provides detailed descriptions of the fish that are sold through the co-op seafood market depending on the time of year. This database will allow Monmouth County residents to enjoy the freshest local seafood all through the year.

We include preparation methods and favorite recipes for these fish and and the times of year that a particular species of fish may be found in the seafood market.

This database was started by Abigail van Hemmen, Fair Haven High School senior in 2011. It is far from complete, but already contains interesting information about the fish caught by Belford today and in the past. Since Abby is off to college in Washington state, Monica De Los Reyes and Blake Goodwyn of Rumson Fair Haven High School have taken over the project.

Since this database is a wiki project it is expected that many people will contribute to the project. If you are interested in joining in contact Rik van Hemmen.
