Our Mission Statement drives our Programs and Events
NMHA, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is dedicated to preserving knowledge and appreciation of Monmouth County's maritime heritage through programs that teach wooden boat building and boat handling skills; through preserving the history of Monmouth County's wooden boat builders and other maritime history; and through the experiential on-the-water programs of River Rangers for middle school children and Sea Scout Ship Navesink for co-ed youth age 14-21.
Our Programs and Events reflect our Mission. We DISCOVER matters of interest, we ENGAGE our Members, Friends, and the Community, in these interests, and we SUSTAIN our efforts in our core mission.
Our long-running River Rangers program, our sponsorship and support of Sea Scout Ship 5, and our regular Community Canoe Building, public presentations, and other activities demonstrate our ability to sustain core activities.
We have also developed and run one-off major maritime events such as the celebration of the 350th Anniversary of the Founding of Monmouth County and the "Guns Blazing! The War of 1812 and the New Jersey Shore" Art Show at the historic Twin Lights lighthouse in conjunction with others.
