NMHA Monmouth 350th
Celebrating the 350th Anniversary of Monmouth County
December 1663 -June 1664
NMHA is the lead organization for a series of events that is commemorating the 350th Anniversary of Monmouth County. There are two major events that took place 350 years ago:
December 1663
Between December 5th and 11th, 1663, a group of English settlers from Gravesend, Long Island, chartered a ship and sailed from Gravesend to Raritan Bay and up the Raritan River, to trade with the local Indians and buy land. Detailed history HERE
NMHA Commemorated this event with the Old First Church Symposium.
Spring 1664
In the spring of 1664 the first five settler families arrived in Monmouth County, which was followed in 1665 with the arrival of more settlers and the granting of the Monmouth Patent. NMHA is commemorating this event with the Cruise of the Onrust in June of 2014.
Go the Events page for further schedule details and to the Cruise of the Onrust page for further background.
