Oysters

At present, no oysters are being landed at Belford or the Raritan Bay. Until recently there was an oyster restoration project off Keyport, but due to political shenanigans the reef was destroyed at the NJDEP's direction. Oyster restoration efforts have been driven by the baykeeper association and those efforts are continuing. The biology of oysters is very complex and worth describing here. XXX Hopefully there will be new efforts at restoring oysters to Raritan Bay and maybe some day oysters will again be landed in Belford or other Raritan bay ports.
