Cruise to Historic Red Hook, Brooklyn by boat from Atlantic Highlands!

On Saturday, October 2nd, 2021, the Classic Boat Rides Mariner will take 34 registered passengers to Red Hook, Brooklyn from Atlantic Highlands.

Red Hook was settled by the Dutch in 1636 who named it "Roode Hoek"(means Red Point) after the color of the soil. It became a very busy and prosperous shipping port in the late 19th century and early 20th, but is now a residential area with shops, restaurants and bars, many in converted warehouses. In addition, Red Hook has great views of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty.

We will depart from Atlantic Highlands at 0800 (promptly), cross New York Harbor, and tie up at the historic Mary Whalen at the Atlantic Basin in Brooklyn. After exploring the Mary Whalen (if permitted) you will independently explore the historic Red Hook waterfront and enjoy its many interesting sights, including the waterfront barge museum, the Red Hook Winery, Cacao Prieto (liquor distillery and chocolate factory), Louis Valentino, Jr. Park and PierThese are just a few of the interesting places to visit!

See a guide to some restaurants and bars HERE. "Main Street' is van Brunt Street, where many of the shops and eating places are located.

Note: Since this is commercial waterfront we will have to board the Mary Whalen from the  Mariner'. This means that modest agility will be required in negotiating a ladder to the Mary Whalen. The walk from the Mary Whalen to van Brunt Street is approximately 0.6 miles, although both the Winery and Cacao Prieto are 1 mile from the Mary Whalen.
