PUBLIC PRESENTATION: Eastern Monmouth County Watershed issues from the County Perspective

Ms. Alexis Bowman, NJ Watershed Ambassador, Freehold Division of Planning.

Ms. Bowman is a NJDEP Watershed Ambassador based out of the Freehold Division of Planning. She is a 2014 graduate from Rider University and lives in Lakewood, New Jersey. The Freehold Division of Planning deals with all land issues in Monmouth County, but watershed issues are taking on a new focus. Watershed is a core issue with regard to achieving optimal man nature interaction and watershed improvement is one of the most cost effective and lasting ways to improve general environmental quality in our communities for all.

Ms. Bowman will explain the present approach with regard to watershed issues at the county level and provide a picture of the status quo and most pressing issues. She will show how GIS (Geographic Information Systems; fancy maps with lots of data) is allowing us to visualize natural flows and man nature interaction with regard to watershed issues and where the fastest improvements can be made. This presentation will teach us all more about looking upstream and upland for downstream improvements to the Shrewsbury rivers. True knowledge of a river relates to knowing where the water comes from.
