Navesink Maritime Fundraising Sail aboard Schooner A.J. Meerwald
Thursday, July 17 • 6:00 - 8:00pm
New Jersey’s official Tall Ship, the oyster schooner AJ Meerwald, will be in Atlantic Highlands harbor for a short stay this summer, and NMHA has chartered her for an exclusive cruise on Thursday, July 17th, boarding at 5:45PM for a two hour sail around Sandy Hook Bay and Raritan Bay (wind willing!).
In 1928 the Meerwald family of South Dennis commissioned Charles H Stowman & Sons shipyard to build the AJ Meerwald. She is a two-masted gaff rigged oyster dredge, is 85ft on deck and 115ft overall, with an 22ft beam, and draws 6ft, and her sail rig height is 68ft.
Join NMHA for our third annual social and educational sail. Passengers will be encouraged to assist the crew in raising sail. Sea shanties may be sung by the crew and you will be encouraged to join in! Learn about the history of the vessel from oyster schooner, to enlisted vessel to landmarked educational vessel.
Refreshments will be served. If you have dietary restrictions, you may bring personal snacks. There will be limited gluten-free and vegetarian snacks served.
Boarding starts at 5:45pm from Pier 4 in Atlantic Highlands (across from the Casino). The schooner leaves the pier promptly at 6:00pm.

The event happens rain or shine, and light rain is unlikely to cause the cancelation of our charter. Tickets are transferable, but not refundable, as this is a fundraising event.
